THIS IS A MUST!!! Install Virus protection. Do NOT use the trial version that came with your computer and no longer has updates available! You need UP-TO-DATE virus protection to prevent viruses. We use AVG Antivirus. You can find it at www.grisoft.com. They have a great program that has kept many computer viruses away. They have a full version that includes daily updates for two years starting at around $34.00, or if you are confident that you wont be needing tech support, you can download their FREE VERSION.SPYWARE PROTECTION Lately, spyware has gotten so bad on the Internet that it will cause as much, if not more damage to your system than many viruses. First, download Spybot Search & Destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download. This is a free program. If you download something called "spybot", and it asks you to pay before it will clean your computer, exit out and go back to the above address. Once you install Spybot, download all the available updates, then use the immunize function to protect you from all spyware currently in their database. Check regularly for updates.A second free spyware program to install is called Spyware Blaster from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com. This program will protect you from homepage hijackers and other Active X based spyware. Again, make sure you have installed all updates and have enable protection.Yahoo also has a spyware detector in its toolbar. Search for New Yahoo toolbar and download the free update. Check for udpates on all programs and run scans on a regular basis!. POP-UP PROTECTION The internet is full of pop-up advertisements, and they slow down your web surfing, exposing you to potential spyware, viruses, and images that you just dont want to see. There are some good pop-up blockers out there, and they are worth the money, but Google and Yahoo both have a pop-up blocker. They do a good job and are free. So make sure to install the new toolbar on you computer. These are programs that we consider necessary to protect a computer from the potential harm out there on the internet right now.
